The Horadric Cube is one of the most powerful tools in Diablo II: Resurrected. While many players use it for crafting runes or creating runewords, it can also reset your character, reroll valuable items, repair expensive equipment, and add sockets to gear.

The reference chart above highlights several of the most useful cube recipes that every player should know.

Respec Your Character with a Token of Absolution

Used all three of Akara's free respecs? Don't worry—you can earn another.

A Token of Absolution is created by combining four Essences dropped by Hell difficulty bosses:

Twisted Essence of Suffering – Hell Andariel or Duriel
Charged Essence of Hatred – Hell Mephisto
Burning Essence of Terror – Hell Diablo
Festering Essence of Destruction – Hell Baal

Each boss has roughly a 1 in 32 chance to drop its Essence, making repeated boss farming the best way to collect a full set.

Reroll Items for Better Stats

The Horadric Cube also allows you to reroll items without finding a brand-new drop.

Some of the most popular recipes include:

Magic Item + 3 Perfect Gems → Rerolls the magic item with new random modifiers.
Rare Item + 6 Perfect Skulls → Creates a new version of the rare item with different affixes.

These recipes are especially useful for:

Grand Charms from Hell Baal, Diablo, or Nihlathak
High-level Diadems
Magic Rings
Magic Amulets

Many players repeatedly reroll high-item-level Grand Charms in search of powerful skillers with life or faster hit recovery.

Upgrade Potions and Ammunition

The cube can also convert common items into more useful ones.

Examples include:

3 Healing Potions + 3 Mana Potions + 1 Gem → Full Rejuvenation Potion
Convert Quivers of Arrows into Bolts (and vice versa)

These recipes are convenient during long farming sessions when inventory space is limited.

Repair Expensive Equipment

Repair costs can become extremely expensive, especially for elite ethereal gear or items with charges like:

Teleport
Lower Resist
Life Tap

Instead of spending huge amounts of gold, use these inexpensive cube recipes:

Ort Rune + Weapon → Fully repairs weapon durability
Ral Rune + Armor → Fully repairs armor durability
Adding the appropriate chipped or flawed gem also restores item charges.

This can save hundreds of thousands of gold over time.

Add Sockets Without Larzuk

Larzuk isn't the only way to socket equipment.

The Horadric Cube can add sockets to normal (white) non-superior items using rune and Perfect Gem combinations.

Popular examples include:

Weapon socket recipe
Shield socket recipe
Helm socket recipe
Armor socket recipe

Keep in mind:

The number of sockets is randomly rolled.
The result cannot exceed the item's maximum socket limit.
Because of this, some bases—such as Monarch Shields—have only a 50% chance of receiving the desired four sockets.

Remove Socketed Items

Made a mistake?

You can empty sockets using:

Hel Rune + Scroll of Town Portal + Socketed Item

This removes every inserted rune, gem, or jewel while preserving the base item. The inserted socketables are destroyed during the process.
